I have read with much interest the dismay expressed by several bloggers over the election of our new general. I must admit: I don't understand it because, by all accounts, he is a wonderful man of prayer and service and will be an excellent leader for the Society. One of my Jesuit heros - a man who offers the model of the type of Jesuit I aspire to become - has said that this is the best possible choice for General. For those who worry about the Society's concern for justice: Christian belief is not merely concerned, as one might at first suspect from all the talk of belief or faith, with the eternal, which as the "entirely Other" would remain completely outside the human world and time; on the contrary, it is much more concerned with God in history, with God as man. By thus seeming to bridge the gulf between eternal and temporal, between visible and invisible, by making us meet God as a man, the eternal as the temporal, as one of us, it understands itself as revela...

I agree with much of what you said and I wondered if you had any thoughts regarding how ID has attempted to "edge out" adult dancers over the last few years. I know, we're low man on the totem pole being that we'll never make it to the worlds, but it kills me to think that attempting to be the best 40 year old dancer you can be is somehow not a worthy pasttime to "the powers that be". I'm shocked but pleased as anything over this relatively new "adult championship" level that a very few feiseanna have added. And I always find other adult dancers to be such a decent bunch; I truly wonder why we've gotten, if not exactly a "bad" reputation, a completely unenthusiastic permission to take part, especially since it was the family-centered "feel" of the first few feiseanna I ever attended that attracted me in the first place...soda bread comp for grandma, singing comp for Dad, language comp for grandpa, and so what's wrong with Mom trying her hand at the dance?
But again, thanks for playing for us adults; we're very appreciative!
